What are the rules of stud poker?

In stud poker it is customarily the player who has the highest value card lead in the betting. What is the procedure when there are wild cards in a game? Does the player with a wild card showing lead the betting or is the player having the highest value card to lead. Is there a set rule or can it be dealer's choice?
